NISSAN PATROL
The workshop sees the arrival of a Nissan Patrol for restoration.
This Nissan Patrol is brought to the workshop for restoration. The majority of the panel work will require intricate repair sections to be made and welded in. Once finished we will carry out a full repaint.
The vehicle arrives as a stripped shell. The first job is to assess the level of work required and is found to be more than first thought and will include some intricate repairs.
The first area to receive attention is the engine bay and area around the battery tray. The front wings are removed to gain access to the inner wings that require sections to be cut out, small repair panels made and welded into place.
The next stage is to remove the offside and nearside sills and cut out some areas of the floor to access the outrigger and inner sill, reconstructing the body mounts that had rusted. To finish the footwell then has repair panels made up and welded in.
The offside rear arch then has areas of rust cut out, sections taken back to bare metal, more small repair panels are made up and welded in, along with repairs to the inner wing sections.
New repair panels are made for the boot floor and then welded in.
To ensure the repaired sections all line up especially as some of the areas have included body mounts we fit up the car with the doors and any adjacent panels. Once happy with all the repairs we fit the new front wings and align the front end after fitting a new front panel.
The roof receives attention as we carry out repairs to the gutters.
Next on the list is to separate the body from the chassis to carry out any welding repairs to the underside.
The shell then moves to the next stage to have filler repairs, body preparation and priming.
After a visit to the booth for the primer to be applied the body is lifted again from the chassis to have a coat of RAPTOR underbody coating applied.
The shell is now prepared and sanded ready for the top coat. While this is being done we turn our attention to the panels which are repaired as required and then put into primer.
Still an exciting time for both ourselves and customers…….The first time the colour is applied to the vehicle even more when it is a colour change! The shell visits the booth, has the sound deadening pads fitted and we then mask up and apply colour to the interior and the engine bay.
As things push on following repair work more panels are sent to the booth to be primed including the bonnet and wings.
Another big milestone in the restoration stage………….Shell goes into paint !!!! and you now start to get the feel of how the vehicle will look in sporting its new colour.
A few more visits to the booth for panels and trim items to be painted and we then move on to fitting the panels to the vehicle and carry out any panel alignment.
With the panels all fitted we then give vehicle a flat down and polish. The customer then had a very specific request………….. a had painted pin stripe and logos.
