BODYWORK
This month work is carried out on the inside of the vehicle. The floor is removed, cleaned down and treated, sections fabricated and weled in. The rotten sill is reconstucted, areas around the B pillar repaired and the sill welded in. The door is hung and panels gaps adjusted. All internal areas are rust treated.
MECHANICAL
We start trial fitting the replacement engine, gearbox and transfer box. New crossmembers are fabricate and welded in for the gearbox. Engine mounts are moved and welded in to allow for clearance. The front axle is built up and trial fitted. Engine, box and transfer box clearances are checked numerous times before final welding of any mounts takes palce. The front end is then also trial fitted.
WELDING
Welding starts with the reconstruction of the doors. Areas of rot are removed, new sections fabricated and welded in. All exposed areas are treated before the newly fabricated sections are welded in. Once complete work starts on the bonnet and upper and lower tailgate panels. Again repair sections are fabricated and welded in. Welding then begins on the shell. Around the roof gutters are corroded and so areas are cut out repair sections made and welded in.
The repaired tailgates are now trial fitted. The top hinge is found to be week around the structural areas where the internal structure has rotted away. A new inner support section is fabricated and welded in for strength along with a new external repair section.
The shell is now bolted to the chassis and we move on to reconstructing areas of the rear floor. A template is created and a new section made from sheet steel and trial fitted ready for welding in.
WELDING ASSESSMENT/STRIPDOWN/CHASSIS WORK/AXLE WORK
Firstly we remove the body from the chassis. The chassis is then inspected and found to be in really sound condition. Once stripped of axles etc the chassis goes off to the sandblasters. On its return the chassis visits the booth for a coat of epoxy primer. Once prepared the epoxy is followed by coats of 2K paint.
The rear diff is then inspected and we start to clean the axle down ready for painting. The front axle follows next.
A list of parts is now compiled and ordered from the States.
