Meet the Team

Meet the Team – Paul Ward

In our second ‘Meet the Team’ interview, we catch up with Paul Ward from our workshop team, to find out more about his role, his passion for cars and what makes him tick!

What’s your role at AM Restorations?

I’m a welder, fabricator and mechanic. I started off as a welder, but over time I progressed onto mechanical build-up and electrical work, with some paint spraying too!

How long have you worked here?

I’ve been here for two years this month.

What’s the best thing about working here?

The rarity of the cars that we get to work on, without a doubt. The team are great too, there’s lots of banter and everyone gets on really well.

What’s a typical day in your role like?

A typical day? Busy! We work on loads of projects all at once, so we move from task to task and vehicle to vehicle throughout the course of the day. There’s no chance of you getting bored though!

Over the years, AM Restorations have completed lots of amazing projects; are there any that particularly stand out for you?

It’s hard to pin down a favourite because everything we get to work on is interesting! I’d say that the Jaguars and Ford Capri’s we’ve had in are some of my favourites because I’m a Ford man.

Have you worked on restoring any of your own vehicles, if so; what project was your favourite?

Yes, I’ve been working on my own cars since I was 13, so it’s hard to pick one favourite! I’ve restored several Ford Capri’s over the years, but the one I’m working on currently is quite special because I’ll pass it along to my son when he’s older.

Before you joined AM Restorations, what did you do?

I’ve always been in the motor trade. I worked in a scrapyard when I left school and before I came to AM Restorations, I worked at a motor parts factors for 10 years, working my way up to assistant manager.

What would you say to someone who was thinking of coming to work at AM Restorations?

Don’t do it…just kidding! Seriously, if anyone wants to work in classic car restoration, I’d recommend working here. You’ll learn loads and get to work with a great team!

In three words, how do you think your co-workers would describe you?

I’m not sure I could repeat it in polite company, so you’d have to ask them!

When you’re not at work, what do you like to do?

I work on my own cars and spend lots of time with my family. I’ve got three children – two girls and a boy – so they keep me busy!

What was your first car?

My first car was a Ford Sierra 2.3 Ghia when I was 13. I spent lots of time restoring it and doing it up, seeing as I was too young to actually drive it. Since then, I’ve owned 112 cars!

And, what would your dream car be?

A Jaguar F-Type in electric blue!

If you were stuck on a desert island, what three things would you want to have with you?

Someone for company and I think a never-ending source of food and lots of beer would also be a good shout!

So that we can get to know you a little better, we’ve got some quickfire questions for you:

– Dream holiday destination? – Somewhere hot!

– Indian or Chinese takeaway? – Indian.

– What’s your hidden talent? – I used to be quite a good artist when I was younger, I’m a bit rusty now!

– Big night in or big night out? – Night in.
– Favourite movie? – From Dusk ‘til Dawn.
– Favourite band? – Queen.

What three things are at the top of your bucket list?

Being rich is definitely number 1! I’d also like to own my own business – something car related – and drive some of the greatest race circuits.

What’s your favourite thing about Plymouth?

It feels like a small town, even though it’s a big city so you get to know everyone. I quite like that.

Lastly, if you won the lottery, how would you spend your winnings?

Wisely!
