What’s your role at AM Restorations?

I’m the director and a restorer.

How long ago did you set up the business?

I started AM Restorations back in September 2012, though I’ve been involved in restoring cars since 1991. I decided to set up the business after seeing that there was an opportunity to provide people with great value for money and high-quality restoration services, whilst doing a job I love.

What got you interested in classic car restoration?

The style and quality of cars from the ’70s and ’80s really sparked my interest in classic car restorations, though I’ve loved cars from an early age.

What’s the best thing about working here?

Seeing the transformation of cars from start to finish, it’s great to see the vehicles go through the different stages of repair and restoration and come out on the other side looking brand new.

Over the years, AM Restorations have completed lots of amazing projects; are there any that particularly stand out for you?

There have been so many stand-out projects, but two that really stick in my mind are the James Young bodied Bentley and the transformation of Dave Parr’s Triumph Stag.

Have you worked on restoring any of your own vehicles, if so; what project was your favourite?

Yes, I’ve restored a number of my own vehicles over the years. I’d say that my current Triumph Stag – which was built from an abandoned shell – and the rally replica Sprint are amongst my favourites. One of my current projects is a Dolomite 1850 and a tribute to my dad and grandad, they’re where I got my interest in Triumphs from.

Before you joined AM Restorations, what did you do?

Before I set the company up, I worked as a mechanic and MOT tester for many years.

When you’re not at work, what do you like to do?

I like to watch live music and take weekend trips in my motorhome.

If you could own any car in the world, what would it be?

An Aston Martin Vantage!

So that we can get to know you better, we’ve got some quickfire questions for you:

  • Dream holiday destination? – The Caribbean
  • Cats or Dogs? – Cats
  • Hidden talents? – Carpentry and garden design
  • Favourite food – Salmon and veg
  • Glass half full or glass half empty? – Half full

What three things are on your bucket list?

  1. Own an Aston Martin
  2. Tour Europe in the motorhome
  3. See Genesis perform

Lastly, if you could pick two dream dinner party guests, who would you pick and why?

Slash (Guns n Roses guitarist) and Phil Collins, both are my all time musical heroes.
