Classic car inspections are just as important as an MOT is on more modern-day cars! At AM Restorations we can provide a full range of servicing provisions, including pre-MOT checks, MOT-exempt inspections and safety checks. It’s important to us that your car not only looks good but also performs well. We will therefore assess, analyse and diagnose mechanical issues and advise you accordingly.
Andy Moss has been involved in restoring classic cars since 1991, and he and the team have extensive experience of working on, restoring and repairing classic and retro cars. We can keep your old classic in tip-top condition and remain on the road. Why not let us put your mind at rest and take care of your classic car inspection?
Why Should I Have an MOT-Exempt Inspection?
Exactly 40 years after your vehicle was first registered, it becomes MOT-exempt. Therefore, the annual roadworthiness check is no longer required by law. However, it’s still important to ensure that your classic or retro car is regularly checked and maintained. That’s where our classic car inspections and safety checks can help.
We still recommend that you carry out checks regularly to ensure your vehicle is fit for the road. We want to ensure you continue to enjoy your classic experience and we can confidently and expertly maintain and repair your vehicle.
What Checks Will Be Performed During My Classic Car Inspection?
As a standard, we will check all the critical safety factors such as chassis, brakes, tyres, fluid levels and electronics are working as they should, before getting you back on the road. Whilst an MOT is not mandatory for some classic cars, our safety check should not be a substitute. We recommend testing the car annually and some insurance companies may require a valid MOT, which we can also provide if desired/required.
It’s important to have your classic car regularly checked to avoid it being neglected. This is even more important for owners who are less mechanically knowledgeable about their vehicles. If there’s no advice or reference point from a yearly inspection, this may worsen anyproblems.
How to Keep Your Classic Car Maintained
An MOT-Exempt Inspection is extremely important, but there are other things that you can do to keep you classic car properly maintained, such as:
- Cleaning it: Washing the exterior of the car, the interior (including vacuuming the carpets and cabin floor), the wheels and tyres, and buffing and polishing as often as possible.
- Regular servicing: By booking your classic car in for regular car servicing, this avoids minor issues turning into major issues, and can lead to you saving money down the line. Servicing tests your vehicle against the vehicle manufacturer’s guidelines, meaning it will be safe on the roads.
- Repair dents, scrapes and scuffs: – keep your classic vehicle properly maintained by ensuring any dents or scrapes are repaired immediately, to combat rusting or excessive work required on the bodywork of your vehicle.
